Tailoring...

For a long time now I've wanted to sew a coat, not just a jacket, but a fully lined tailored one, preferably with a collar and double breasted. Now until last year I wasn't that skilled in sewing, i could make basic things but my skills weren't quite there, so a coat seemed very daunting. But last year I did cert II in applied fashion design at high school. Even though the teacher was nasty I learnt a lot and through even more practise this year I've finally got the courage to make a coat!

The fabric is an old woollen tweed probably bought by my grandma a long time ago, but was hibernating in my mum's stash. A clean up for a garage sale and our impending move meant that I could use it! DROOOOOLLLL.... I love the subtle flecks of colour in it, such tweedy fabric should be worn in New Zealand! The lining is a vintage synthetic lining fabric, gotta love the abstract houndstooth :) The collar is red velveteen left over from a cape for my boyfriend.

So pictures! The pattern is vogue, and I'm really happy with the quality of the pattern, it may be complex pattern but sewing it has been so easy and straight forward. I did initially plan to make view B but i didn't have enough fabric. But view A worked perfectly with what I had :)

The coat actually isn't finished as of yet, I still have to hem the bottom and add buttons, but when it is complete I'll post up pictures of me happily wearing it :)

The front, think it needs red velveteen buttons <3

The back, love how this is pieced, and the flare!

Lining detail, funky eh?

Should be finished in a few days!
